Complete 4-Step Guide To Maintain Ceramic Coating

Maintain Ceramic Coating Easily & Effectively
Ceramic coatings bring multiple advantages to your vehicle. They go beyond basic protection, delivering long-lasting preservation. One of the key benefits is the enhanced gloss. The coating provides a mirror-like finish that elevates your car’s visual appeal. Moreover, ceramic coatings offer UV protection. This prevents your paint from fading due to sun exposure.
Ceramic Coating Benefits
- Enhanced gloss and shine
- UV protection against sun damage
- Resistance to chemicals and contaminants
- Reduced maintenance time
- Improved resale value
- Chemical resistance is another significant advantage. The coating protects against bird droppings, tree sap, and other contaminants that can harm paint. This invaluable benefit enhances the longevity of your vehicle’s appearance.
While ceramic coatings do make the car wash process easier and washing a ceramic coated car is quicker and easier than with waxes or sealants, the process to maintain a ceramic coating is relatively straightforward and helps extend its lifespan while keeping your vehicle looking pristine. Here’s a step-by-step guide:
Wash regularly with quality pH Neutral Wash Shampoo to maintain ceramic coating
Wash your car at least every 1–2 weeks to prevent road grime from building up. Use the two-bucket method (one for soap, one for rinsing) to minimize the risk of scratching. No dish soap, no wax, polymer or ‘gloss-enhancing’ shampoos. A ‘pure’ balanced shampoo like our ESOTERIC pH Neutral Wash Shampoo or Gyeon Bathe will help maintain the coating without masking it’s beneficial properties.

Dry properly using a clean, fresh drying towel or a car dryer to prevent water spots from forming. A spotless water system like a CR Spotless, can help with avoiding water spots!
Best of both worlds? A car dryer + a great drying towel!
To properly maintain your coating, occasional decontamination may be necessary.
While ceramic coatings are great for repelling dirt and grime, there are times when a deeper cleaning is necessary to keep the coating performing at its best. After Winter, with its road salt, grime, and harsh conditions, is a prime time for such maintenance. Occasionally you’ll hear that a ceramic coating is clogged which, OK…I guess that might sound more technical than what it really means, that being “The surface is dirty”. Drains & pipes get clogged, cars get dirty but, well, whatever. In any event, here’s how you can approach a deeper cleaning of your ceramic-coated car with some of our favorite coating decontamination products:
- POLISHANGEL UltraRed
- Kamikaze KMKZ Acid Shampoo
- Gyeon Restart Wash
- ESOTERIC Tar Remover
- ESOTERIC Iron Remover
- Gyeon Iron
- Gyeon Tar
*As clay bars & synthetic clay substitutes are abrasive, do not clay your ceramic coating.
Apply a Ceramic Coating Maintenance Product/Sacrificial Layer occasionally after a wash
Use a ceramic spray or coating maintenance product/sacrificial layer every 2–3 months to rejuvenate the hydrophobic properties and maintain shine; these products are easy to apply and help maintain the coating’s longevity. Benefits of ceramic maintenance sprays
- Rejuvenates Hydrophobic Properties: Over time, the hydrophobic effect of the ceramic coating may diminish. A ceramic spray enhances water beading and sheeting, keeping the surface slick and easy to clean.
- Maintains Shine: These products enhance gloss, ensuring your car looks as good as when the coating was first applied.
- Adds a Protective Layer: They act as a sacrificial layer, absorbing minor contaminants and reducing wear on the primary coating. The theory of Sacrificial Layers is a cornerstone of Kamikaze Collection’s approach to Car Care
- Extends Coating Longevity: Regular maintenance with these products can significantly extend the life of the underlying ceramic coating.
